Laura Muscente, Owner: I began working with dogs back in 1971 with my Mom and co-owner Madeline, as a breeder and exhibitor of Yorkshire Terriers. She wanted to “keep off the streets and out of trouble” so we spent almost every weekend going to AKC Sanctioned events in the Tri-State Area. I never went without having a four-legged companion since! During the 1990’s I was co-owner of Global K-9 Training Center in Wallkill, NY. 10 years of training, handling, breeding, & grooming police dogs imported from Europe gave me a firm understanding of the dog psyche. In addition, I had the honor of apprenticing with the late Fran Wasserman, a Professional AKC Handler who shared her knowledge of grooming large breeds for the AKC Ring. This hands on training of grooming under her guidance was invaluable. To this day I do not believe there is anything more stressful than having a list of dogs that need to be groomed perfectly to go into the ring at almost the same time! But I loved the accomplishment of it all and the personal gratification of seeing a dog that I had groomed win or place in the Ring. I got caught by the show bug again and bred 2 Champion Akitas but loved the Match Ring best for my puppies socialization. I was like any other owner who was so proud to see my dogs win their class, breed or the whole Match!
The opportunity to purchase Roaming Rover was a dream come true for me. I felt that it was a perfect fit. I am now able to be in contact with a great many dogs of different breeds, meet great dog owners, and do what I love daily. Lets face it, dog owners are a crazy bunch.
I feel an even greater sense of accomplishment when I see a happy dog and even happier owner when their dog is finished with their full grooming session. It is just one of life’s great moments.
